Which dogs should you use trimming stones and trimming knives on?

Rough-haired dogs and spaniels need trimming knives and trimming stones, as they remove the loose hairs effectively by the root. It is therefore also necessary that you check whether the dog is ready to be trimmed. You can easily do this by pulling the outermost hairs loose, and if they are easy to pull off, your dog is ready to be trimmed.

With us you will find different trimming knives and trimming stones that are suitable for different coats. It will be on each of the tools, so you are sure that you get the right trimmer.

When do you not use trimming knives and trimming stones?

There is always a difference between dogs, and even if your dog belongs to the rough-haired category, it may well be that a trimmer is not for you. It may also be that you have had difficulty trimming; it could possibly be because the dog's fur is too wet, then the fur will be much too soft. A spayed or neutered dog can also have changes in its coat, making it difficult to use trimming knives and trimming stones. If you have clipped the dog first, it can also be difficult to trim. This is because the structure of the fur changes. To have a good trimmed coat, you almost always have to be able to save it.

How often should you use trimming knives or trimming stones on your dog?

It is very different from dog to dog. Some dogs' hair grows faster than others, but one thing you always have to be sure of is that you don't do it too soon. It can hurt your dog if you trim too soon. It is very normal with 3-4 times a year, but for some dogs it will be more often and for others less. You should be able to tell by your own dog's fur whether it needs a trim or whether you should wait.

Get your dog used to trimming knives and trimming stones

It is always important, regardless of the type of grooming you use, that your dog is comfortable with it. Therefore, we also suggest that you take your time, as early in the dog's life as possible. A lot of treats is definitely a good idea, especially if the dog tends to be uneasy in new situations. You must always make sure that the dog feels safe with you, and therefore you should start quietly when using trimming knives and trimming stones. When your dog has got used to the situation, you can be sure that it will be a good experience for both of you going forward.
